For me (not sure if it's the official difference) you can retire at 30 if you like but you will only become a pensioner when you start receiving your state pension (aged 65ish) It sounds weird to say young pensioner (oxymoron really) and retired is an adjective, so it doesn't fit.

I'm not saying definitely, but just it may give such feeling.
